A long–time resident of North Beach, Clay has captured impressions of its haunts and inhabitants for over twenty-five years. Her etchings, watercolors, and oil paintings depict images of the Chinese American community and the artist herself passing through. In more recent years, Clay has been focusing primarily on printmaking. She combines Western and Eastern influences in her work
Clay studied painting and drawing at Ecole des Beaux Arts in France and printmaking in Japan. She has exhibited extensively to strong critical acclaim in Europe and in the United States. The Washington Post heralded her “a prodigious talent” and she was yet in high school when offered a first exhibition, at the de Saisset Museum of Art in Santa Clara, California. More recently she has shown in San Francisco area and Napa Valley.
